I love all kinds of music really. What's probably in my stereo right now is:
Jon B. - Greatest Hits
John Mayer - Heavier Things
Ciara - Goodies
Jet - Get Born
Lil John & The Eastside Boyz - Crunk Juice
and last but not least...
Prince - The Purple Rain Soundtrack

Hey Alex, and anybody else who likes industrial, I'd have to recommend "Collide" by Skillet. Every song on that CD is solid gold.
If anyone likes reggae/rock, you can't go wrong with "Engage" by PAX217. Again, every song on that disc is catchy and unique.
(Finally, if anyone likes Broadway showtunes from the 1930s and 1940s, there are a few gems in the Time-Life series...)

well since I'm a hopeless narcissist as well as a rabid music fan; Interpol - everything Joy Division - most...Closer especially Elliot Smith - everything Belle & Sebastian - everything Bauhaus - everything Django Reinhardt - everything Everything pressed on the Impulse and Blue Note labels from the 40's through the 60's such as - Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, Eric Dolphe, Oliver Nelson, John Coltrane...etc Nick Drake - everything Dead Can Dance - every freakin' thing Karshlama - all Tarif D' Haidouk - all Les Yeux Noir - all Velvet Underground - all Phillip Glass - piano works Satie - Gymnopedie (s) but all of his work actually Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata (when I'm hungover and cannot do anything besides lay under a blanket, moan and wish for death...) I enjoy music best live actually, and I go to shows of all odd genre (except rock-a-billy or "metal" of any sort ) as a result I usually end up complaining about it being too loud, no smoking available, no cheap wine or that the band(s) actually sucks, but, I make an effort, music is most real when performed in front of you.

well since I'm a hopeless narcissist as well as a rabid music fan; Interpol - everything Joy Division - most...Closer especially Elliot Smith - everything Belle & Sebastian - everything Bauhaus - everything Don't know them... Damn freaking good. I think I have almost everything too. Damn my non-culture... Agree ! Check their DVD too if you haven't. Aaaahhh, Moonlight Sonata. Damn good too. My favorite by Beethoven still remains the Ninth though :p Let's add John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia - Friday Night In San Fransisco Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Lost Trident Sessions (and every thing else by the way) Tool - Lateralus Massive Attack - Protection And some french songs : Thomas Fersen - Qu4tre Mass Hysteria - De Cercles en Cercles Stop there... However much more still worth mentionning... I had an "a-priori" for metal too a couple of years ago. Try some A Perfect Circle, some Tool, some Dream Theater, some System of a Down, you might eventually like some of their songs :p.

Hmmm. I have all the Tool and Perfect Circle discs, very tortured stuff, but, worthwhile musically. I don't really consider them 'metal' though. also a bit too dark, I reserve them for headphone moping. Dream Theater - ooooo. sorry. can't do it. too Rush-ish System of a Down - hmmmm. nope. the metal and rock-a-billy thing is just that the same imagery and structure is used over and over, there is no real connection for me emotionally or anything. I grew up in eastern seaboard cities during the 80's, it was punk rock, industrial, techno and such, so that metal and hot-rod rock-a-billy stuff I just can't digest well, i've given it a good try too. I'm sure it's great...but..oh, well. Joy Division- odd proto-gothic group from the very early eighties/late seventies. I'm old so I listened to them first time around. Bauhaus- gothic stuff, at least back in the early 80's, 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' would come on in the club and thin pale boys n' girls would start swooping about from the shadows... but, it was more than just genre stuff. Interpol - brand new stuff out of New York, placed in the charts actually, I risk saying they must have listened to Joy Division, some influence is apparent. Nick Drake - singer song writer who put out two albums of beautiful songs about longing and sadness...then did himself in with drugs the Blue Note and Impulse stuff is all Be Bop Jazz, I am insane for it, since I was a little kid, I recommend John Coltranes 'Giant Steps' and Charles Mingus' 'Ah Um Mingus' if you ever wish to dabble. nothing like good Bop. Elliot Smith - singer song writer from Portland Or. I believe, died two years ago(?) had a song on the 'Royal Tennenbaum' soundtrack called 'Needle in the Hay' it was played when Ritchie was losing it and offing himself. It's wonderful music, very emotional, very beautiful, highly recommended Belle & Sebastian - difficult to pin a label, some call 'em 'shoe gazer' I don't. very good, meaningful. I've seen the Dead Can Dance DVD - yummy. I left out This Mortal Coil and early Cocteau Twins from my original list, all on the 4AD label. I have a fairly rare collection called Lonely is an Eyesore on vinyl. 4AD had wonderful bands with very unique and provocative sounds. They also launched some of the later Industrial stuff. I listen to some older Industrial/Experiamental stuff like Test Dept and SPK anyway...that's it. oh yeah..I don't listen to the 'Ninth' much...makes me think bad things..

One of my friends *loves* Belle and Sebastian, and I like Velvet Underground.
Moonlight Sonata was my very last recital piece.

My Nana, bless her heart, tried to teach me to play piano for years, I ended up playing trumpet. less keys to worry about. (kidding.) jeez...artist, student, play Beethoven on the piano...ever worried your head might just pop? yeah...Velvet Underground- perfect music to paint to on a rainy day while ingesting far too much coffee and nicotine. "Stephanie Says" my favorite, though I do like 'The Gift' sometimes when I feel evil. (well, when I feel especially evil) ever listen to an album Lou Reed and John Cale did called 'Songs for Drella' ? it's a tribute to Andy Warhol, very good.

When I'm feeling one with my heritage. Hawksley Workman and the Delicious Wolves Best of Rachmaninoff (mainly for Vocalise), Chopin (Etudes), Bellini, Handel (Passacaglia) and various other classica music cds i've acquired over the last 14 years because they're so damn well priced.
