Anyone remember Cow Tools from ComicsSherpa? It started off as one of the lowest rated toons there, but now it actually has a contract w/ United- and get this: it's going to be in PRINT!
I'm rather happy for Guy and Rodd since I don't get the impression that their panel toon is a rip off of Gary Larson. It actually has quite a unique sense of humor.
Guy and Rodd were just doing this for fun in the begining, and didn't plan on pursuing syndication seriously (if my memory serves me correctly). Thankfully, United discovered them and will be in several major newspapers come January (including the L.A. Times!)

I actually looked at the comic because of the name (and the fact that it is from an old Far Side cartoon). Though I agree, the comic has little relation to the Far Side other than that. And why is it always someone else, not you? This is getting ridiculous.

And why is it always someone else, not you? This is getting ridiculous. It does get really frustrating after a while. It's funny- when I wrote my July comic-con series one person wrote to me and said "Learn to deal with failure." The funny thing is is that I'm actually quite used to "failing." Seriously, I never win anything and it really feels like I'm on the outside looking in most of the time. Regardless, we must press on. I'm still young and have lots of time ahead of me.

Speaking of being picked up, what happened to .blue? Weren't they picked up by Ucomics? I thought it had been on there, but I haven't seen it for a while.

Yeah I was wondering that too. Maybe the author quit, or Ucomics ended their relationship.

"Brevity" (AKA Cow Tools) launched a few days ago. Here's where you can read them online: www.unitedmedia.com/comics/brevity/They actually kicked the weekday Garfield out of the LA Times! Good job Guy and Rodd!

How did they kick out Garfield? I don't mean Garfield the strip itself, but the format. Don't newspapers usually replace panels with panels and strips with strips? Did they rearrange the comics section?

You know, I don't know how garfield got replaced by a panel, but apparently it's possible. I forgot where I read that exactly, but people are talking about it everywhere- toontalk.org comes to mind.

my ears were burning.
They replaced garfield with Mutts on the back page (which is now sort of a kids page) and run "Pardon my Planet" as a strip instead of a panel where Mutts was. We run as a panel where pardon my planet was. (But we run as a strip in other papers - very complicated).
Thanks for keeping the memory of cow tools alive.

oh wow, its rodd!
I think my fav. cow tools was the one where the kid didn't know wether to buy alligator spray or crocodile spray at the convenience store. I couldn't stop laughing!
Not since the Far Side or Calvin and Hobbes has there been a comic so worthy of newspaper syndication. Cow Tools, er Brevity, really has a unique take on the one panel strip. The writing style is fresh and clever, plus the art really compliments the overall theme.
good job guys!

I'm so glad to see you here, Rodd! Anyway, thanks for explaining what happened at the LA Times- I was getting the impression that it was a simple swap between you and Garfield.
Anyway, I really hope to see it in the Sunday paper soon, since that's the one I usually read.
