Hi everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Al and I'm a newbie over at Sherpa. I had contacted a few of the cartoonists that I had liked their comic strips (C'est La Vie being one of them) and Jen was nice enough to write back and let me post on her forum. I currently write a comic strip entitled 'The Trouble With Martians'. So I just wanted to drop a quick link to it and hope a few of you may want to check it out and hopefully enjoy it. Your feedback is welcome. The site is: www.thetroublewithmartians.com and the Sherpa link is: www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cslkmThanks again, Jen! Much appreciated!!

Read your comics and got a nice giggle. Well since you are the "Martian" guy, I have often wondered what the people of mars call their planet. I mean we call our planet Earth,(duh), which is basically calling it "Dirt". I would assume it's safe to say that the so called "Martians" would not name their planet after an ancient war god of human beings. So what is the Martian word for "Dirt". Or would it be something a little more advanced, or maybe somethin' ridiculus, like Frank, or Cheese or something. And also if we venture out into space and find that other planets all called their planets some variation of the word "Dirt", how would they go about gettin' their mail and not their interstellar neighbors?

Hey, glad you liked the strips! Well, I'm not a Martian myself, but I have used my connection to look into some of your inquiries. It turns out that they don't name their planet after dirt or a war god. Apparently they simply named their planet 'Red'; but it is NOT named that because of the common cliche of the red planet. It turns out it was named Red because of the arrogant nature of said Martians and their belief that they are 'well red' (apparently oblivious to the fact it should be spelled r-e-a-d). Another unknown fact is of their universal trademark of the phrase/word 'red'. They are currently putting together a rather large lawsuit against planet earth for the heavy trademark infringements. Some examples would be the Red Lobster chain, the group Simply Red, Red Foreman from 'That 70's show', all Red Crayola crayons, the trio of Reds (Buttons, Skeleton, Foxx), Heinze Red Ketchup as well as Prince's 'Little Red Corvette'. They originally wanted to include the movie 'Red Planet', but figured they would concentrate on things that actually made a profit. When I asked about the interstellar mail, essentially he scoffed about the idea of using such primative communication. His reply was simply - "What do you think the friggin' antennas are for?? I hope that helps you. ;D Actually, for those who haven't seen the strip in a while (or at all), I have used some of the critiques offer recently (including 1 Jen Babcock ) to hopefully strenghthen the look of the comic and website. Hope you have time to drop by and check it out!

And you even have a store up and running. That's a huge head start, since you already have a way to get some income off the comic (before I get ahead of myself, have you sold anything yet?).

Thanks. I'm glad you like the improvements! As for the store, yeah, I have sold a decent bit of merchandise (and I don't mean to my folks ). I don't know if I'd say that it would be extra income, though. Basically, I just put any sales $ back into more promotion; you know, a tool to help garner some more attention to the strip. Hopefully it will bring some extra response to the comic in the coming months. I guess we'll see...

Maybe Jen can take a look into having more in her store than "buy my book!".
