Actually, many of Lovecraft's works are highly sexually charged... if you're into fish-people or slimy elder gods...
Obviously Donna is unfamiliar with his fine works. Which would explain the gift. ;D
Plus there's the name, "Lovecraft". Says everything that needs to be said.

Gifts say more about the giver than the givee.
Which isn't to imply that intent can't be misread:
Gift giver: "I thought you might enjoy this because I like it."
Gift givee: "that is possibly that most hateful and least enjoyable thing anyone has ever given to me. You must truly despise me to have foisted this thing upon me."
Gift giver: "...if you don't want that, I'll take it off your hands."
