So I can't register for classes b/c I can't afford them- I can't get financial aid until my PhD candidacy meeting, which isn't till Jan.
This means I have to pay matriculation fees (711 bucks) and not be a registered student, which menas that I can't work for the school... which means I have no steady income anymore. financially.
Craps!
I applied for a curatorial position at the Brooklyn Museum- I really hope they call me back for an interview. I would prefer not to sell my soul by commercializing sacred Egyptian funerary objects at a sleazy gallery- working at Sotheby's or Christie's wouldn't be so bad (they're still sleazy, but at least they're a name brand kind of sleaze) but they dont' have any positions.
I think I'll try working retail somewhere. Maybe Ann Taylor again- actually, no... somewhere that gives you commission. I'm a pretty good salesgirl.
I should work at Tiffany's!

that blows! sometimes to get what you want you gotta cut thru alot of red tape and jump thru hoops but it will all be worth it in the end....still, you'd think the process would make more sense and it sux that ur out that money. $711 might not seem like alot of money to some people but to me it's a shitload.
anyway- good luck with finding a job. I'm looking for a new one myself right now and I know how frustrating it can be waiting to hear something.

Tell me about it- 711 seems like an exorbitant amount of cash to pay just to keep my student status. Private schools suck balls.
It's funny b/c all through elementary to undergraduate I've been to public (UCLA was still a lot, but being a CA resident I got a great deal for a fantastic education) and took it all for granted. I also would've thought that I would be getting more personal attention by going to a private school, but that's not the case at NYU. UCLA was so much more efficient when it came to registering for classes and paying for junk. It doesn't help that my department is geographically separated from the main campus at Washington Square (by about 70 blocks).
This wouldn't have been a problem if my professor just turned in my form on time (to pass my second thesis). I was supposed to have my candidacy meeting earlier this month. Crappers!
